1. Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and a securely hashed password through our authentication provider. We never store your password in plaintext.
Menu images and scan data. When you scan or upload a menu photo, the image is transmitted to our backend for processing. We store scans and their generated results so you can revisit them in your history. You can delete scans at any time from within the app.
Purchase information. If you purchase a subscription or scan pack, Apple processes the transaction. We receive a signed receipt from Apple to verify the purchase and update your credit balance and subscription tier. We do not collect or store your payment card information.
Usage data. We may collect basic diagnostic information, such as crash logs and error events, to keep the app running smoothly.
2. How we use your information
- Authenticate you and provide access to your account
- Process menu images and return structured results
- Maintain your scan history and credit balance
- Verify in-app purchases and entitlements
- Diagnose bugs, prevent abuse, and improve the app
3. Third-party services
Carte relies on the following providers to operate:
- Supabase — authentication, database, and image storage
- Anthropic (Claude API) — AI processing of menu images to produce structured results
- Apple — App Store distribution and in-app purchase processing
Menu images are sent to Anthropic's Claude API solely to generate the result for that scan. Per Anthropic's policies, API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models.
4. Data retention and deletion
Your scans and account data are retained as long as your account is active. To delete your entire account and associated data, email us at the address below and we will process the request within a reasonable timeframe.
5. Data security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and row-level access controls on our database.
6. Children's privacy
Carte is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date above. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
